Black mold on bedroom wall in humid Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe. It’s been incredibly humid the last few weeks and the AC in that room seems to struggle to keep up. I’m really worried about what this is and if it’s making us sick. What’s the best way to handle this properly and who should I call for a reliable inspection in Dubai?

The black spots spreading behind your wardrobe are almost certainly mold, a very common issue in Dubai villas during periods of high humidity. The wall behind furniture becomes a cold spot with poor air circulation, allowing condensation to form and mold to grow, especially if the AC is undersized for the room.

First, move the wardrobe away from the wall to allow the area to dry completely. Do not attempt to scrub it, as this can release a large number of spores into the air. For a small area, a solution of white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover can be effective for surface cleaning, but this only addresses the visible growth, not the moisture source.

Given the spread you've described, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. The inspector will use a moisture meter to find the exact water source—which could be a small leak, capillary action from the slab, or simply chronic condensation—and recommend the proper remediation method. In Dubai, look for a company that provides a detailed report with documented moisture readings and can identify the mold species through lab analysis to assess any potential health risks. This scientific approach ensures the root cause is fixed, preventing it from returning next season.
