Mold behind wardrobe in Dubai: call landlord or company?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe. It's on the wall that faces the outside, and with all the humidity lately, it seems to be getting worse. What's the best way to handle this in Dubai – should I call my landlord first, or is there a specific company that deals with mold remediation here?

Notify your landlord immediately and provide clear photos of the mold. Under Dubai's rental laws, structural issues like this are typically the landlord's responsibility, especially since it's on an exterior wall. They should arrange for a professional assessment.

This is likely due to a combination of Dubai's high humidity and a possible thermal bridge or minor water ingress in the exterior wall. The wardrobe traps humid air against the cooler wall surface, creating perfect conditions for mold growth. Simply cleaning the visible spots is not enough; the underlying moisture issue must be addressed.

For a proper remediation, the process should involve moving the wardrobe, using specialized equipment like HEPA vacuums and air scrubbers to contain spores, treating the wall with antimicrobial solutions, and identifying the external moisture source. A company with its own microbiology lab can verify the mold type and confirm the cleanup was successful with post-remediation testing.

Until it's handled, improve air circulation in the room and keep the wardrobe slightly away from the wall. Your landlord should coordinate with a remediation provider directly.
