Allow it to dry completely. For the AC system, the interior evaporator coil and drain pan are the most likely sources of the odor and mold. These components require a specific antimicrobial coil cleaner and a thorough flush of the condensate drain line with a vinegar solution to remove organic sludge. However, this approach only addresses surface-level contamination. In many villas, the problem is systemic, stemming from an undersized AC unit struggling in the heat, poor insulation causing excessive condensation on cold walls, or a blocked drain line. Without correcting the underlying moisture issue, the mold will return. Given the location (a bedroom) and the visible growth, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They can use a borescope to inspect the internal ductwork and evaporator coil for widespread contamination that isn't visible. The most definitive way to identify the species and extent of the problem is through a lab test, which determines the appropriate remediation protocol. For a lasting solution, the inspection should also assess the AC's performance, insulation behind the vent, and the integrity of the drain line to prevent the conditions that allowed this to happen. |
