How to remove and prevent bathroom shower mold?« Back to Previous Page

The grout between the tiles in our master bathroom shower has been getting these dark, fuzzy black spots over the last few months, especially in the corners. We keep the window open, but with the humidity here, it just doesn't seem to dry out properly. I'm worried it's spreading and I want to tackle it for good.
What's the most effective way to clean this existing mold and what can I do to my bathroom's routine to permanently prevent it from coming back?

For surface-level mold on grout, scrub with a paste of baking soda and water or a diluted vinegar solution (1 part vinegar to 1 part water). For tougher cases, a dedicated grout cleaner from a hardware store is more effective. Always wear a mask and gloves during cleaning to avoid inhaling spores.
Prevention is critical in Dubai's humidity. Run the bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower. If you don't have one, installing a high-capacity fan is the single best investment. Wipe down wet walls and the shower floor with a squeegee after use to remove standing water. Keep the shower curtain or door open to allow air circulation. A small dehumidifier can also help if humidity remains persistently high. If the mold is widespread, has penetrated behind the tiles, or returns aggressively after thorough cleaning, the moisture source may be deeper. In such cases, a professional inspection can identify hidden leaks or condensation issues within the wall that require remediation to achieve a permanent solution. |
