How to remove black mold in Dubai humidity?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black, fuzzy spots spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind the clothes. It's been really humid lately and I'm worried it's from all the moisture. What's the best way to get rid of this black mold in Dubai for good, and should I be calling a professional company or can I handle it myself with something from Ace Hardware?

Black mold growth in a Dubai closet is a common issue directly tied to our high humidity, especially during summer months. The condensation from year-round AC use often creates the damp, poorly ventilated conditions mold needs to thrive behind furniture and in closets.

For a small, isolated patch (less than one square meter), you can often handle it yourself. Wear an N95 mask, gloves, and safety glasses. A solution of white vinegar or a diluted bleach mixture (one part bleach to four parts water) can be effective. Scrub the area thoroughly, but the key is to address the moisture source. Improve ventilation in the closet, use a dehumidifier, and ensure your AC unit is serviced and draining properly to prevent recurrence.

However, if the growth is extensive, has returned after cleaning, or is inside the AC system itself, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. Visible spots are often just the tip of the iceberg, and the mold may have spread into wall cavities or insulation. DIY methods cannot address hidden growth. Professionals use moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the full extent and should provide a protocol that includes containment to prevent spores from spreading to other parts of your home during remediation.

The most critical step for a permanent solution is identifying and eliminating the source of the moisture leak or condensation. Without this, the mold will almost certainly return, regardless of how well you clean the visible growth. For verifiable results, a company with its own microbiology lab can provide pre- and post-remediation testing to confirm the species and that the environment has been returned to a safe, normal fungal ecology.
