How to remove mold from humid villa wall in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe. It's on the wall that faces the outside of the building, and with all this humidity lately, it seems to be getting worse. What's the most effective way to deal with this kind of mold in a Dubai villa?

That wall behind the wardrobe is a classic trouble spot in Dubai villas. The combination of an external wall (which can get cold from AC) meeting humid air creates perfect conditions for condensation and mold. The first step is to move the wardrobe away from the wall to allow air circulation and assess the full extent.
For small, surface-level growth, a solution of white vinegar or a diluted bleach mixture (1 part bleach to 4 parts water) can be effective for cleaning. Wear an N95 mask and gloves. However, if the mold has penetrated porous materials like drywall or plaster, cleaning the surface is only temporary; the mold will return because its roots (hyphae) are deep inside. The persistent humidity we have makes this almost certain. Given it's spreading, a professional inspection is strongly recommended to determine the moisture source and penetration depth. In Dubai, remediation should follow standards like the IICRC S520, which focuses on containment to prevent spores from spreading to other parts of the house during removal. For serious penetration, cutting out and replacing the affected section of the wall is often the only permanent solution. After remediation, address the root cause to prevent recurrence. Ensure your AC is set to a consistent temperature to reduce condensation on cold walls. A dehumidifier can help manage ambient moisture, especially during the more humid months. Most importantly, maintain a gap between large furniture and external walls to permit airflow. |
