Should I report mold to landlord?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a greenish mold growing on the ceiling of my bedroom. It’s only in one corner but it’s been there for about two weeks now. I’m unsure if this is something I should report to the landlord or if they are responsible for addressing it given we’ve lived here for 2 years and haven’t had any issues before. Should I bring this up with them, or am I overreacting?

Absolutely, you should report the mold to your landlord. In dubai uae and particularly in the emirates, there are specific regulations concerning property maintenance and tenant rights that could be relevant here.
Firstly, it’s important to note that according to the Real Estate Agency Law of 2018 (Law No. 15 of 2018), landlords are responsible for maintaining properties in a safe condition. This includes ensuring that the premises are free from mold and other health hazards. Although you’ve lived there for two years without issues, the emergence of mold is still a matter that requires attention. Given that you've noticed greenish mold on the ceiling of your bedroom, it's crucial to get this situation assessed by a professional. Mold growth in residential properties can lead to numerous health concerns, including respiratory issues and allergies. The longer the mold persists, the more potential for health risks increases. Therefore, it’s advisable to call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection. Before you do so, take photos of the affected area to document the condition accurately. This will help in assessing the extent of the issue and could be useful during any discussions with your landlord about repairs. You might also want to prepare a written report of the situation, including when you first noticed the mold and how often you have observed it. If you can provide evidence that this has been an ongoing concern, it may strengthen your case for prompt action from the landlord. It’s important to communicate clearly with your landlord about the situation. Provide them with all relevant information, including your observations and any documentation you’ve gathered. Be cooperative but firm in asserting your rights as a tenant under UAE law. If they do not respond adequately or refuse to address the issue, consider seeking legal advice or involving a mediator. Remember, addressing mold promptly is key not only for your health but also for maintaining the overall condition of your property. By taking these steps and ensuring professional inspection and remediation, you can help prevent further issues and ensure a safe living environment. |
