Black mold behind bed: DIY clean or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page
|
Our bedroom in our Jumeirah villa has felt really damp for a couple of months, but I just pulled our king-sized bed away from the wall and found a huge patch of black and green fuzzy stuff spreading behind it. We keep the AC running but this particular wall always feels cold. What’s the most effective way to clean this ourselves, or is it already too big of a job and we need to call a professional?

Based on what you've described with the large black and green patch behind your bed in Jumeirah, my professional advice is to call a professional immediately. That is not a DIY job.
The fuzzy texture you mention is a major red flag, indicating active, established growth. The constant cold feeling on that wall strongly suggests a hidden issue, likely a breach in the building's thermal envelope or a concealed condensation point within the wall cavity itself, which is a common issue in our coastal UAE climate. You are only seeing the surface manifestation; the root cause inside the wall is almost certainly worse. Attempting to clean this yourself with store-bought solutions like bleach is ineffective and hazardous. You will disturb the colony, releasing a massive cloud of toxic spores into your bedroom air, which you and your family will then inhale. This poses significant health risks, especially in a sleeping area. Under the UAE's public health and building codes, extensive mold infestations like this require professional assessment and remediation to ensure the property is returned to a safe and habitable condition. We use industrial-grade HEPA filtration, antimicrobials, and, most critically, identify and rectify the moisture source to prevent guaranteed regrowth. For a case of this severity, you need a certified inspection and remediation plan. Please do not attempt to clean this. Call our team for an emergency inspection at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. We'll identify the moisture source and safely eradicate the problem. |
