Black mold in closet: DIY fix or call Dubai professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind the clothes. It's on the wall that faces the outside of the building, and the room always feels a bit damp even with the AC running constantly. I wiped it with some bleach spray but it came back after a few days. Is this something I can tackle myself with a better cleaning product, or do I need to call in a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai?

Based on your description, this is a textbook case of a mold issue that requires professional intervention, especially in Dubai's climate. The fact that the mold returned after a DIY bleach treatment is a major red flag. Bleach only removes surface discoloration on non-porous materials; it does not kill the mold roots (hyphae) within the wall and can actually aggravate the problem by introducing moisture.

The damp feeling and location on an exterior wall strongly suggest a more serious underlying cause. In the UAE, this is commonly due to condensation from AC units not being properly balanced for the space, or more critically, a breach in the building's external waterproofing (a common issue here known as "rising damp" or water ingress through micro-cracks). This is a building integrity issue that no cleaning product can fix.

According to UAE health and safety guidelines, persistent mold growth of this nature, particularly the black-colored type which can be Stachybotrys (toxic black mold), necessitates a professional inspection. Our process involves using thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint the exact moisture source and air sampling to identify the spore type and concentration levels. DIY attempts can inadvertently cross-contaminate other areas of your home.

For a proper and permanent remediation, the affected section of drywall likely needs to be removed, the root cause addressed, and the area treated with professional-grade antimicrobial solutions. Given the health risks and complexity, we strongly advise against a DIY approach.

Call our certified team at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) for a comprehensive inspection. We'll identify the source and provide a clear remediation plan to ensure your home is safe and mold-free.
