Black mold in kids' room: clean myself or call pro?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual and I’ve just found patches of black mold in the corner of their bedroom closet. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, probably from the humidity. Is this something I can clean myself with bleach or vinegar, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company in Dubai?

Based on your description, this situation warrants immediate attention and likely professional intervention. The combination of black mold (which could be Stachybotrys chartarum, a toxigenic species), its location in a child's bedroom, and the presence of health symptoms like persistent coughing elevates the risk significantly.

While small surface mold on non-porous materials can sometimes be addressed with a detergent solution, using bleach or vinegar is not recommended. Bleach can exacerbate the problem by adding moisture to the porous building materials (like drywall or concrete behind the paint) and only bleaches the surface pigment without killing the root structure (hyphae). Vinegar is a mild acid and is ineffective against many mold species. The critical first step is a professional inspection to identify the exact species and the full extent of the contamination, which is often hidden within wall cavities, especially given Dubai's high humidity levels that cause condensation and create ideal breeding grounds for mold behind walls and in AC systems.

UAE regulations, particularly from Dubai Municipality, have strict guidelines for indoor air quality and remediation to ensure it is handled safely, preventing cross-contamination and protecting occupant health. DIY attempts often disturb the mold, releasing a high volume of spores and mycotoxins into the air your children breathe.

For a thorough assessment and a remediation plan that includes containment, air scrubbing, and proper disposal, it is essential to call a certified professional. I strongly recommend contacting Saniservice for a comprehensive inspection. They can accurately identify the mold type, the moisture source, and provide a certified remediation solution.
