Black mold in wardrobe: DIY clean or call professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a spreading black patch in the corner of our master bedroom wardrobe, which is on an interior wall. It’s been especially humid lately and the musty smell is really strong when I open the doors. I’m worried it’s from a hidden leak. Is this something I can clean with bleach myself, or do I absolutely need to call a professional company to handle it?

Based on the description of a spreading black patch and a strong musty smell in your Jumeirah villa's wardrobe, this is a strong indicator of an active mold colony, likely Stachybotrys chartarum (true black mold) or Aspergillus niger. The interior wall location and recent high humidity suggest a probable hidden leak from plumbing or AC condensation drain lines, which is extremely common in Dubai's climate where year-round AC operation creates significant moisture.

Do not use bleach. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall and wood, as it only removes surface discoloration without addressing the root moisture problem or the hyphae (root system) deep within the material. It can also release harmful fumes and exacerbate the issue by adding moisture.

A professional inspection is absolutely necessary. UAE regulations, particularly from Dubai Municipality, have strict guidelines for indoor air quality and mold remediation to ensure it is handled safely and effectively. DIY attempts can cause cross-contamination and significant health risks from spore dispersal.

Our certified team at Saniservice uses thermal imaging to pinpoint the hidden moisture source, followed by professional-grade HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial application, and containment procedures to safely remove the biomass and prevent recurrence.
