Can I clean black mold with bleach or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it’s from the black fuzzy spots I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, probably from all the humidity. Is this something I can clean with bleach myself, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on your description, this is a serious situation requiring professional attention. The black, fuzzy growth behind the wardrobe is a classic sign of a significant moisture problem, likely exacerbated by Dubai's high humidity and the constant condensation cycles from year-round AC use. While bleach is a common DIY suggestion, it is highly ineffective and even dangerous for this type of remediation. Bleach only removes the surface discoloration but does not kill the mold roots (hyphae) penetrating porous materials like drywall. More critically, mixing bleach in a confined, poorly ventilated space can produce toxic chlorine off-gassing, which is a severe respiratory irritant and particularly harmful to children.

Given that your children are already exhibiting respiratory symptoms like coughing, a professional inspection is not just recommended—it is essential. Disturbing the mold during a DIY attempt will aerosolize millions of spores, drastically increasing indoor air contamination and potentially worsening their health issues. Our certified inspectors use moisture meters, thermal imaging, and air quality tests to identify the full extent of the infestation and the hidden moisture source, which is a critical step per UAE remediation guidelines.

For a confirmed case of active growth, our hygienization team uses industry-grade, EPA-approved antimicrobials and specialized containment procedures to safely remove the mold and the contaminated materials, followed by HEPA vacuuming and air scrubbing to restore your indoor air quality.

Do not attempt to clean this yourself. For the health of your family, I strongly advise you to call our team for a comprehensive inspection. Contact us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment.
