Can I clean closet mold myself or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom closet on the inside wall has started getting small black speckles on the leather bags and shoes I stored there. It’s been really humid the last few weeks and I’m worried it's spreading. Is this something I can tackle with vinegar and bleach myself, or do I need to call in a professional cleaning service?

Based on the description of black speckles on leather goods in a closet, this is a classic sign of active mold growth, almost certainly fueled by the recent high humidity. In the UAE's climate, this is a very common issue, especially on interior walls which can be cooler and attract condensation.

While a small, surface-level patch on a non-porous surface might be addressed with a DIY solution like diluted vinegar, your situation is more complex. Using bleach is not recommended; it is largely ineffective on porous materials, can damage your leather items, and its high moisture content can actually feed the mold root system later. The presence on leather and the location on the wall suggest a deeper humidity issue that cleaning the surface won't fix.

A professional inspection is strongly advised here. We need to identify the moisture source—it could be condensation from the AC system, a minor plumbing leak in the wall, or simply inadequate ventilation. Our certified inspectors use thermal imaging and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact cause, which is crucial for permanent prevention. Simply wiping it away without solving the moisture problem guarantees it will return, potentially spreading to other areas and compromising your air quality and belongings.

For a definitive assessment and a remediation plan that addresses the root cause, it's best to call in experts. Please contact us for a thorough inspection at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or hello@saniservice.com.
