Can I fix AC mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC unit in our Jumeirah Park villa has been leaking a bit for a couple of months, and now I’m seeing a small patch of black mold on the ceiling of my daughter’s bedroom. I’ve tried wiping it with vinegar, but it just comes back darker. Is this a job I can handle myself with products from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call in a professional mold remediation company, and what kind of cost am I looking at for a single room?

Based on what you've described, this is a textbook case where professional remediation is strongly advised. Here's why:

That black patch is just the visible tip of the iceberg. The real issue is inside the AC unit and the ceiling cavity, where the leak has created a perfect, hidden reservoir for mold growth. The UAE's high humidity acts as a constant fuel source. Wiping the surface with vinegar is ineffective; it only bleaches the surface pigments, and the underlying colony simply regrows stronger, which is why it's coming back darker.

Attempting a DIY fix with store-bought chemicals is risky. You'll likely aerosolize the spores, spreading the contamination throughout the room and HVAC system, which your daughter will then inhale. This poses significant health risks, especially for children.

In Dubai, proper mold remediation is a controlled process. It requires isolating the area with negative air pressure, using industrial-grade HEPA scrubbers to purify the air, and safely removing all contaminated materials. Crucially, the root cause—the AC leak—MUST be fixed by a certified HVAC technician first, or the mold will 100% return.

For a single room like this, costs can vary but typically start from AED 2,500 upwards, depending on the extent of the hidden damage. This investment ensures the problem is solved safely and permanently, protecting your family's health and your property's value.

Given the recurring nature and the potential health impact, I highly recommend a professional inspection to assess the full scope. Call our specialists at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a detailed assessment and quote.
