Can I remove bedroom closet mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. It wasn't there during my last seasonal cleaning, and I'm worried the humidity is making it worse. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach or a vinegar solution from Carrefour, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company?

Based on the location (interior wall closet) and the sudden appearance of black mold, this is a common yet significant issue in Dubai. The high ambient humidity, combined with year-round AC operation, creates massive condensation potential, especially in poorly ventilated spaces like closets on cold walls.

While a small, surface-level patch (less than 1 square foot) might be addressed with a detergent solution, I strongly advise against using bleach. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces and can exacerbate the problem by adding moisture. A vinegar solution is marginally better but only addresses surface discoloration, not the root cause.

The critical factor is the moisture source. This is likely not a surface spill but condensation due to a temperature differential or, more concerning, a hidden plumbing leak within the wall or a breach in the building envelope. Without a professional inspection, including moisture mapping and thermal imaging, you are only treating the symptom.

For health safety and a permanent solution, a professional assessment is paramount. Improper handling can aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination throughout your bedroom. Our certified teams at Saniservice use industrial-grade HEPA containment, antimicrobial remediation techniques, and dehumidification to not only remove the visible mold but also rectify the moisture source, ensuring compliance with Dubai Municipality's public health and safety standards.
