Can I remove closet mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black and greenish mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind some shoes. It's been extra humid lately and I'm worried it's spreading. Can I just wipe this down with vinegar myself, or do I need to call a professional company in Dubai to handle it?

Based on the description of black and greenish mold in a closet, especially given the recent high humidity in the UAE, this is a common but potentially serious issue. The key factor is the moisture source; in a closet, it's often due to poor ventilation or a hidden leak from an adjacent bathroom or AC unit.

While a small, surface-level patch (less than 1 square foot) might be addressed with a DIY approach, I strongly advise caution. Wiping it with vinegar is a temporary fix that often misses the root cause and can aerosolize spores. For a proper DIY clean, you'd need to wear an N95 mask, isolate the area, use a HEPA vacuum, and scrub with a dedicated antimicrobial cleaner, not just household vinegar.

However, considering it's behind items and you're worried about spreading, a professional inspection is highly recommended. Our humid climate causes mold to regrow rapidly if the moisture issue isn't identified and resolved. We use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to find the exact source, which is often not visible.

For your safety and a guaranteed solution, it's best to get a certified assessment. We can determine if it's a simple fix or requires professional remediation to ensure your indoor air quality is safe.
