Can I remove recurring black bathroom grout myself or need professional?« Back to Previous Page

My bathroom's grout has been turning black in the corners for the last couple of months, especially behind the toilet where it's a bit damp. I've tried scrubbing it with bleach, but it just comes back a week later. I live in a villa in Mirdif, and I'm worried this humidity is making it worse. Is this something I can tackle with a better cleaner from ACE, or do I need to call in a professional?

The black discoloration you're observing in your grout is almost certainly mold growth, a very common issue in Dubai's climate. The high ambient humidity, combined with localized moisture from showers and condensation from year-round AC operation, creates a perfect environment for mold. While bleach can superficially remove the visible stain, it is a biocide that does not address the underlying moisture problem or penetrate deeply into porous grout, which is why the growth recurs.

For a persistent issue, a simple cleaner from ACE is unlikely to provide a permanent solution. The problem requires a two-pronged approach: identifying and rectifying the source of the dampness (such as a micro-crack in the grout, a leaking seal, or inadequate ventilation) and then properly remediating the existing growth.

As a certified professional, I must recommend a professional inspection. In the UAE, proper remediation follows strict guidelines to prevent cross-contamination and ensure complete spore removal, not just surface cleaning. Our technicians use moisture meters and thermal imaging to pinpoint the exact moisture source and then employ industrial-grade EPA-approved fungicides and sealing techniques to prevent recurrence. For a villa in Mirdif, this is a sound investment in your property's health.
