Fastest, safest way to remove mold with kids at home?« Back to Previous Page

Our kids’ room in our villa in Jumeirah 3 has this black, fuzzy mold growing along the bottom of the wall where it meets the floor, and it’s been getting longer over the last few weeks since the humidity spiked. My youngest has started having a really bad cough in the mornings and I’m terrified it’s connected. What is the absolute fastest and safest way to get rid of this long mold for good with kids in the house?

Based on the description of long, black fuzzy mold spreading along the skirting board, this is a serious infestation, likely Stachybotrys, which is highly toxigenic and a known respiratory irritant. With a child developing a morning cough, this is a significant health red flag that requires immediate professional intervention, not a DIY approach.

The fastest and safest method for a situation like this in your Jumeirah villa is a full containment remediation. This involves sealing the affected room with plastic sheeting, operating industrial-grade HEPA air scrubbers to create negative air pressure and capture airborne spores, and the careful removal and disposal of contaminated porous materials (like the damaged drywall and possibly the skirting boards). All surfaces are then treated with EPA-approved, child and pet-safe antimicrobial agents. Crucially, this entire process must be conducted by certified technicians in PPE to prevent cross-contamination to other areas of your home.

Given the potential health risks to your youngest, I strongly advise against attempting to clean this yourself. Disturbing the mold will aerosolize the spores, drastically increasing their concentration in the air your family breathes. For a permanent solution, the underlying moisture issue—likely condensation from the high humidity or a hidden leak—must be identified and resolved.

Your family's health is paramount. Please call us immediately for a professional inspection and remediation plan. We can be on-site quickly to assess and contain the problem.
