How to permanently stop black mold in closet?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom closet on the outside wall has started to get a few patches of black mold, and it’s definitely worse since the heavy dew season started. I’ve wiped it down with vinegar, but it just comes back within a couple of weeks. I’m worried it’s spreading to our clothes. What is the most effective long-term solution to kill this mold for good and stop the moisture from coming through the wall?

Good question. That recurring black mold in your closet is a classic symptom of a persistent moisture issue, which is extremely common here in Dubai and the UAE, especially during the high-humidity and heavy dew seasons. Vinegar or bleach only address the surface growth you can see, not the underlying cause, which is why it keeps coming back.

The most effective long-term solution requires a two-pronged approach: addressing the moisture source and then professionally remediating the mold.

First, the moisture. Since you mentioned it's on an outside wall, the primary suspect is condensation. The temperature difference between your air-conditioned room and the hot, humid external air causes moisture to condense inside the wall cavity, creating a perfect hidden environment for mold. It could also be a minor, hidden leak from plumbing or a crack in the building envelope.

For a permanent fix, I strongly recommend a professional inspection. Our certified technicians use tools like thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source of the moisture intrusion without destructive testing. This is crucial because simply cleaning the mold is a waste of time if the water entry point isn't sealed.

Once the moisture source is identified and repaired, the mold itself must be properly remediated. This involves containment of the area, HEPA vacuuming, and application of EPA-approved antimicrobial agents that penetrate the wall materials to kill the root structure, not just the surface spores. For closets, all clothing and items should be professionally cleaned or hygienized to prevent cross-contamination.

Ignoring it risks structural damage to the property and potential health issues from the spores. For a proper diagnosis and permanent solution, please call our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive assessment.
