How to safely remove black mold from bathroom for good?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's because of the black mold that's started to grow in the corners of our master bathroom in our JVC apartment. The humidity in there is just crazy even with the exhaust fan running. It started getting worse about a month ago and now it’s spreading along the grout. What's the most effective way to get rid of it for good and make sure it's safe for my family?

Based on your description, what you're seeing is a classic case of Stachybotrys chartarum, or toxic black mold, exacerbated by the UAE's extreme humidity. The persistent cough in your kids is a significant red flag and a common symptom of mold spore exposure.

The first step is NOT to attempt removal yourself. Disturbing the mold without proper containment will aerosolize millions of spores, drastically increasing your family's exposure and spreading the infestation. Over-the-counter bleach solutions are ineffective on porous surfaces like grout; they only remove the surface discoloration while the root structure (hyphae) remains deep within the material, guaranteeing rapid regrowth.

For a permanent solution, the underlying moisture issue must be addressed. In JVC apartments, exhaust fans are often undersized for the climate. We would perform a hygrothermal assessment to measure the bathroom's relative humidity and check the fan's CFM (cubic feet per minute) output to ensure it meets Dubai Municipality's standards for ventilation. Often, upgrading to a more powerful fan or installing a positive pressure system is required.

The remediation process we follow is in line with UAE's best practices: strict containment using polyethylene sheeting and negative air pressure machines with HEPA filtration to prevent cross-contamination. The affected grout is then treated with EPA-approved, non-toxic antimicrobial agents that penetrate and eradicate the mold at its root. Post-remediation, we conduct air quality testing to verify spore counts are back to safe levels.

Given the health symptoms, I strongly recommend a professional inspection and remediation. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate assessment. Your family's health is not something to gamble with DIY methods.
