How to safely remove mold behind furniture in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black fuzzy patches I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, probably because we never move the heavy furniture. It's on the wall facing the outside of our building in Jumeirah. What's the most effective and safe way to remove this mold myself, and when should I just call a professional company?

Based on the symptoms you've described and the location in Jumeirah, it's highly advisable to proceed with caution. The persistent cough in your children is a significant indicator that this mold issue may already be affecting your indoor air quality. The wall facing the exterior is a classic trouble spot in Dubai, as the extreme outdoor heat meeting the chilled interior air from year-round AC creates significant condensation inside the walls, providing the perfect damp environment for mold to thrive.

For a small patch (less than 1 square meter), you can attempt containment and removal. You must isolate the area by sealing the room and turning off the AC. Wear an N95 mask, gloves, and safety goggles. Gently mist the mold with a diluted detergent solution (do not use bleach, as it does not kill the roots and can exacerbate spore release) and carefully wipe it away. The wall must be thoroughly dried immediately with a fan. However, given that the mold is behind a heavy wardrobe and has likely been growing unseen for some time, the infestation within the wall cavity could be far more extensive than the surface patch suggests.

For the safety of your family, especially with children experiencing respiratory symptoms, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. DIY methods often disturb the colony, causing a widespread release of harmful spores throughout your home. We at Saniservice use advanced thermal imaging to assess moisture within the walls and air sampling to identify spore types and concentration levels. Our remediation process involves engineering controls to contain the area, HEPA filtration to clean the air, and antimicrobial treatments to ensure complete removal and prevent recurrence, all in compliance with Dubai Municipality's public health and safety guidelines.

Do not risk your family's health. For a definitive assessment and safe, guaranteed removal, please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a consultation.
