Is AC mold in baby's room urgent to fix?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been leaking a little bit onto the carpet for maybe two weeks now, and this morning I pulled back the corner and found a patch of black and green mold about the size of my hand underneath. My husband says we can just clean it ourselves this weekend, but with our baby sleeping in here, I'm getting really worried. How urgent is it that we deal with this mold in a Dubai villa, and is it a DIY job or should I call a professional immediately?

Based on your description, this is an urgent situation that requires immediate professional attention, not a DIY project. With a baby in the room, the risks are significantly elevated.

An AC leak saturating the carpet has created a perfect environment for mold growth inside the ductwork, under the carpet, and likely in the padding, which is impossible to properly clean yourself. The visible patch is just the tip of the iceberg. In Dubai's climate, this mold will continue to proliferate rapidly, releasing spores into the air your baby breathes. This can lead to serious respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and other health concerns, especially for an infant with a developing immune system.

DIY cleaning with bleach or vinegar is ineffective on porous materials like carpet and can actually aggravate the problem by releasing a concentrated cloud of spores without addressing the root moisture source. Proper remediation requires industrial-grade HEPA filtration to contain the area, specialized antimicrobial agents, and moisture meters to ensure the structure is completely dry to prevent rapid regrowth.

Given the health risk to your child and the complexity of addressing both the AC unit and the contaminated building materials, I strongly recommend you call a professional for an immediate inspection. We can assess the full extent of the contamination and provide a safe, certified remediation plan.
