Is closet mold in my Dubai apartment an emergency?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom’s walk-in closet has been smelling really damp for the last couple of weeks, and today I found black spots speckled on the back wall behind my winter coats. I live in a high-rise in Jumeirah Lakes Towers and I run the AC constantly. Is this something I need to deal with immediately, or can I just clean it myself this weekend?

Based on the description, yes, this situation warrants immediate attention and should be treated as a priority. The damp smell and visible black spots are classic indicators of active mold growth. In the UAE's climate, especially in high-rises in areas like Jumeirah Lakes Towers, this is a common issue, but it is not something to ignore.

Running the AC constantly can actually contribute to the problem if the unit is not properly maintained or if the closet is a dead air space with no ventilation. The cold wall behind the coats creates a condensing surface where moisture from the humid air settles, providing the perfect breeding ground for mold. The species could be anything from common Cladosporium to more concerning types like Stachybotrys (black mold).

Do not attempt to clean this yourself with bleach or household cleaners. DIY methods often spread the spores and only bleach the surface color, leaving the root structure intact. This allows the mold to regrow quickly and can exacerbate health risks through exposure.

This requires professional assessment. We need to identify the moisture source—it could be a minor condensation issue or something more serious like a hidden pipe leak within the wall. Our certified inspectors use thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact cause. Remediation must be done under containment with HEPA filtration to prevent cross-contamination to the rest of your apartment.

For your health and the integrity of your property, I strongly recommend a professional inspection. Call us immediately at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment.
