Is mold from AC harming my kids?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a strange mold growth on the walls near where my children sleep in the bedroom. The AC in our apartment has been running non-stop since then, but it still seems to be circulating some musty air through the room. My kids have been coughing more frequently lately and I’m worried about their health. Could this be related to the AC or mold issue?

Air conditioning systems can indeed be a breeding ground for mold and other microorganisms, especially under conditions of high humidity. In the UAE context, we often experience such environments due to our climate and the constant need for cooling. The issue you're experiencing is quite common, particularly after periods like last month's rain.

Mold growth near your children’s sleeping area could be a result of moisture issues within the AC unit or in the surrounding environment. Even if the AC is running continuously, it might not be effectively drying out all areas of the apartment due to its design or placement. The circulation of musty air indicates that there may still be dampness present.

From a health perspective, mold can produce spores and other allergens that can exacerbate respiratory issues in children. Increased coughing could indeed be related to exposure to these allergens from either AC or mold. In Dubai, we need to consider local regulations such as those set by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) for indoor air quality standards.

Given the situation, it is highly recommended that you schedule a professional inspection of both your AC system and any potential moisture issues in the walls. This can help identify the source of the mold and ensure proper remediation. A certified environmental specialist will be able to provide guidance on cleaning or replacing parts of the AC if necessary, as well as addressing any structural concerns.

If the issue persists after a professional inspection, consider consulting with an indoor air quality expert for further assessment. They can offer more tailored solutions based on your specific environment and compliance with local regulations.

Call 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 or email hello@saniservice.com to book an inspection today. Ignoring these issues could lead to a worsening of conditions, affecting not just the health but also the overall comfort in your home environment.

Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is crucial for everyone’s well-being, especially in a climate like Dubai's where moisture can be a challenge.
