Is the black mold in my AC dangerous for kids?« Back to Previous Page

Our AC unit in the kids' bedroom has been leaking a bit for the last couple of weeks and I just noticed some black, speckled stuff growing on the wall behind the curtain. My youngest has had a runny nose and a cough that won't go away, and now I'm really worried. Is this the dangerous kind of black mold I keep hearing about, and who should I call in Dubai to test it properly?

The black, speckled growth you've described behind the curtain is a major red flag, especially given your child's persistent respiratory symptoms. In Dubai's humid climate, AC condensation leaks are a primary cause of mold proliferation. While the term "toxic black mold" is often sensationalized, many species of Stachybotrys and Aspergillus that appear black can produce mycotoxins and are particularly hazardous to children, whose immune systems are still developing.

The continuous cough and runny nose are classic indicators of mold exposure. The AC unit itself can then aerosolize these spores and distribute them throughout the room's air, turning a localized problem into an airborne health concern. You are right to be worried and to act promptly.

For your family's safety, a DIY test kit is insufficient. You require a certified professional inspection. In the UAE, proper mold assessment involves not just visual identification but also air quality sampling and surface swabs to determine the spore count and species type, which dictates the remediation protocol. We follow strict guidelines from entities like the Dubai Municipality on indoor air quality.

Do not attempt to clean this yourself, as disturbing it can release a massive amount of spores. I strongly recommend you call our team for a comprehensive inspection. We can accurately identify the mold, assess the contamination level in the air your kids are breathing, and provide a safe, effective remediation plan.

Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an immediate assessment. Your children's health is not something to gamble with.
