For a small, isolated patch (less than 1 square foot), you can attempt to clean it yourself, but you must be extremely cautious to avoid spreading spores. First, identify and STOP the moisture source. Is there a leak from an adjacent bathroom or AC unit? Is it just condensation? Without fixing this, it will return.

For cleaning: DO NOT dry brush or vacuum the area, as this will aerosolize the spores. Wear an N95 mask, gloves, and eye protection. Isolate the area by closing the closet door and sealing the gap with tape if possible. Use a damp cloth with a solution of detergent and warm water to gently wipe the mold away. After cleaning, the area must be dried completely and quickly. A dehumidifier or fan can help.

However, given the location on an interior wall, the moisture could be originating from within, meaning the problem might be more extensive behind the drywall. This is where DIY becomes risky and ineffective.
