Is this mold dangerous for my toddler to be near?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a patch of fuzzy, black and green mold spreading along the baseboard behind the sofa in the living room. It's been incredibly humid lately and I'm worried it's been growing there for a while, hidden from view. My main concern is my toddler who plays on that carpet all the time. Is this something I need to get professionally cleaned like, tomorrow, or can I handle it myself with a bleach solution over the weekend?

Based on your description, yes, this mold absolutely poses a potential risk to your toddler and requires immediate attention. The combination of fuzzy black and green growth, its hidden location allowing for prolonged colonization, and the high humidity we're experiencing in Dubai are all significant red flags.

The primary danger lies in the mold's mycotoxins and spores, which become airborne and are easily inhaled. For a young child with a developing respiratory system, this exposure can lead to allergic reactions, asthma exacerbation, chronic coughing, and other health issues. The fact that your toddler plays directly on that carpet means they are in the highest exposure zone. Bleach is not a recommended solution; it is mostly water (which feeds mold) and only bleaches the surface appearance without addressing the root colony or the harmful mycotoxins. It's also dangerous to mix and use around children.

Given the extent you've described and the hidden nature (it's likely spread further behind the baseboard and into the wall cavity), a professional inspection is strongly advised. Our certified inspectors use thermal imaging and moisture meters to identify the full extent of the water source and contamination, which is critical for a permanent solution. We are fully compliant with Dubai Municipality's health and safety regulations for remediation.

For the health of your family, I would not recommend waiting. Please call us for a professional assessment. You can reach our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
