Is urgent mold removal needed for my shower sealant?« Back to Previous Page

We've been in our Jumeirah Village Triangle villa for about a year, and I just pulled back the silicone sealant around my shower and found a ton of black mold underneath. It’s been extra humid lately and the smell has been getting worse. How urgent is it to get this professionally removed, or can I handle it myself with bleach?

Based on your description, this is a situation that warrants immediate professional attention. The presence of significant black mold underneath the silicone sealant, combined with a worsening smell, indicates a persistent moisture issue that has likely penetrated beyond the surface. In the UAE's high humidity, this is a common but serious problem in bathrooms without adequate ventilation.

While many DIY solutions like bleach are popular, they are often ineffective for this type of infestation. Bleach only bleaches the surface mold you can see; it does not kill the root system embedded in the substrate (like the grout or wall behind). Furthermore, disturbing the mold by pulling the sealant can release a high concentration of spores into your home's air, potentially affecting indoor air quality and health, especially for those with respiratory sensitivities.

For a villa in Jumeirah Village Triangle, we strongly recommend a professional inspection and remediation. Our certified technicians use moisture meters and borescopes to assess the full extent of the water damage behind the tiles. Remediation involves proper containment, HEPA vacuuming, and the application of EPA-approved antimicrobial agents to ensure complete eradication, not just a cosmetic fix. This prevents rapid regrowth, which is almost guaranteed with a DIY approach.

Given the urgency to prevent further structural damage and potential health effects, it's best to get a expert assessment. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive inspection and a permanent solution.
