Loud AC rattling: emergency fix or can it wait?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our master bedroom has started making a really loud rattling noise that kicks in every time the compressor starts, and it's only getting worse. It's been doing this for a couple of days but last night it was so bad it kept waking me and my husband up. With the weather already hitting 40 degrees during the day, I'm getting worried about a complete breakdown. Is this something I need to call a technician for as an emergency, or is it safe to wait a few days for a regular appointment?

Based on your description, that loud rattling noise coinciding with the compressor startup is a significant concern and I would strongly advise against waiting. In the UAE's extreme climate, a compressor under this kind of stress is a high-risk component for complete failure.

The rattling you're hearing is typically caused by one of two serious mechanical issues: failing compressor mountings (the internal springs that isolate vibration) or, more critically, internal damage to the compressor itself, often referred to as "compressor slugging" where liquid refrigerant is entering the compression chamber. Both scenarios put immense strain on the system. Continuing to run it in this state risks a catastrophic burnout of the compressor motor, which is the most expensive part of your AC unit to replace. The fact that the noise is worsening is a clear indicator the problem is progressing.

Given the ambient temperatures are already at 40°C, the system is under maximum load. A complete breakdown now would leave you without cooling, which in Dubai is not just an inconvenience but a genuine health and safety issue. This qualifies as a priority service call.

Do not delay. You need a certified technician to diagnose the source of the noise immediately. For a rapid response from a specialist in AC diagnostics and repair, I recommend you call our emergency line at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule a priority inspection. It's far better to address this now than to face a full system replacement during the peak of summer.
