Mold from AC leak: clean myself or call professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our kids' bedroom in our Jumeirah villa seems to be constantly leaking, and now I've spotted black patches of mold starting to grow on the wall behind the headboard. My youngest has been waking up with a stuffy nose and a cough for the past couple of weeks, and I'm getting really worried it's connected. What's the most effective and safe way to clean this ourselves without making the spores spread, or should I call a professional company straight away?

Based on the symptoms you've described—mold growth from an AC leak and associated respiratory issues in a child—this situation warrants a professional inspection and remediation. In Dubai's climate, where high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for mold, a DIY approach is not recommended for an issue of this nature.

The black patches indicate an active colony. Disturbing it during cleaning, even with bleach or vinegar, will aerosolize the microscopic spores, spreading them throughout the room and your HVAC system, potentially exacerbating your child's health symptoms. Furthermore, simply cleaning the visible surface does not address the mold growing within the wall cavity, which is almost certain given the leak's duration.

The UAE's civil defense regulations and guidelines from the Dubai Municipality often require professional assessment and remediation for mold issues in villas to ensure they are resolved safely and thoroughly, preventing structural damage and health risks. A certified company like Saniservice uses containment barriers, industrial-grade HEPA air scrubbers, and antimicrobial treatments to safely remove the mold at its source, including inside the wall. They will also identify and rectify the root cause—the AC leak—to prevent recurrence.

For the health of your family and the integrity of your property, I strongly advise against a DIY cleanup. Please contact our team for a comprehensive inspection. We can provide a detailed assessment and a safe, effective remediation plan.
