Mold in AC causing toddler's wheezing in Dubai? Who to call?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our villa in Al Barsha seems to be making this weird damp smell every time it kicks on, and I just found some black speckles around the air vent in my toddler's bedroom. He's been wheezing for the past couple of weeks, and I'm starting to panic that it's mold-related. What's the fastest way to get the AC unit tested for mold here in Dubai and who should I call first, the building management or a specialized cleaning company?

The situation you've described is extremely serious and requires immediate action. That damp, musty smell from the AC is a classic indicator of microbial growth, and the black speckles around the vent are highly likely to be mold colonies. The correlation with your toddler's wheezing is a major red flag; children are particularly vulnerable to mold spores, which are a known asthma trigger and can cause severe respiratory irritation.

In the UAE's humid climate, AC units are a prime breeding ground for mold if not maintained properly. The condensate drain pan can clog, leading to stagnant water that fuels mold growth, which is then aerosolized and blown directly into the living space.

Do NOT call a standard cleaning company first. Their methods can agitate the spores, causing a much wider contamination. Building management should be notified for records, but the first and most critical call is to a certified mold inspection and remediation specialist. We are governed by strict Abu Dhabi EHS and Dubai Municipality guidelines for indoor air quality and remediation protocols.

A professional company will conduct a thorough inspection, including air and surface sampling to identify the spore types and concentration levels. This evidence is crucial. The remediation process involves isolating the area, using HEPA filtration to clean the air, and professionally decontaminating the entire AC ducting system.

For your child's health, please act fast. I strongly recommend you contact a certified professional immediately for an emergency inspection.
