We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet, and it's starting to smell damp. The wall shares one side with the ensuite bathroom. With the humidity lately, it's gotten worse really quickly and I'm worried it's a bigger problem behind the wall. What's the realistic cost for professional mold remediation for something like this in a Dubai apartment, and is it a must to hire experts or can I tackle it myself with a dehumidifier and cleaner?

For a small, surface-level patch (under 1 sq. ft.), you can attempt DIY. Wear an N95 mask, gloves, and goggles. Scrub with a solution of detergent and water, then wipe with a diluted vinegar solution. A dehumidifier is essential to dry the area completely. However, the damp smell and rapid spread indicate the moisture source is likely inside the wall cavity, which you cannot access or dry yourself.

Professional remediation is strongly advised here. They will identify and fix the root cause—often a leaking pipe, failed grout, or AC condensation drain issue—then properly contain the area, remove affected materials, and use industrial HEPA filtration to remove spores.
