Mold in Jumeirah bedroom: DIY or professional cost?« Back to Previous Page

Our guest bedroom in Jumeirah that we rarely use has these blackish-green fuzzy patches spreading from behind the wardrobe where the wall meets the floor. I think it started after that really humid spell we had a couple of months ago, but it's definitely getting bigger. I’m worried about the health risks and the damage to the wall, but I have no idea what this kind of mold remediation should cost here. For a small room like this, is it a DIY job with bleach, or should I absolutely call a professional company, and what’s a reasonable price range I should expect for the inspection and removal?

Based on the description—blackish-green fuzzy patches spreading from behind furniture on an exterior wall—this is a classic case of long-term, dampness-related mold growth, likely Aspergillus or Penicillium, which are very common here in Jumeirah after humid spells. The location indicates a potential cold bridge or a minor, persistent condensation issue that's been brewing for months.

Absolutely do not use bleach. It's a temporary fix that bleaches the color but doesn't kill the roots (hyphae), and it can actually feed the mold with its moisture content. More importantly, improper DIY agitation will release a massive amount of spores into the air, significantly increasing the health risk, especially in a bedroom.

For a proper remediation, you need a professional inspection first. We use thermal imaging and moisture meters to find the exact source of the moisture—it could be a tiny leak from the AC drain line, capillary action from the slab, or just severe condensation we see in rarely used rooms. The remediation itself involves containment, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial application, and addressing the moisture source.

For a room of that size (approx. 12-16 sqm), a professional inspection and moisture assessment should be around AED 500-700. If the mold is only surface-level on the wall, remediation could range from AED 2,000 to AED 4,000, depending on the extent behind the wardrobe and the required drying time. This is not a DIY job given the spread you're describing.

For a precise quote and to get that sorted properly, you should really call for a professional assessment. Call 800-MOLDS or 800-66537, and our team can come out to Jumeirah to give you a full breakdown.
