Mold in toddler's room: DIY or professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My toddler's been having a really bad cough that gets worse in his bedroom, and we just found patches of black mold behind his wardrobe. We're in an older building in Deira and I'm worried this is causing his breathing issues. Is it better to try and clean this myself with vinegar or should I just call a professional company? If I hire someone, what's a realistic cost to treat one room for mold in Dubai?

As a certified mold inspector here in Dubai, I can tell you with certainty that a toddler's cough worsening in a specific room with visible mold is a major red flag. Black mold (often Stachybotrys chartarum) is a potent allergen and respiratory irritant, and children are significantly more vulnerable. In the humid climate of Deira, especially in older buildings with potential AC drainage issues or leaks, this is a serious health concern.

Do NOT attempt to clean this yourself with vinegar. DIY methods often aerosolize the spores, spreading them throughout the room and HVAC system, which can drastically worsen your son's asthma symptoms. Proper remediation requires containment, professional-grade HEPA filtration to capture spores, and specific antimicrobial agents, not household products.

For a situation involving a child's health and visible growth, a professional inspection and remediation is absolutely recommended. We follow strict UAE health and safety protocols for containment and disposal. The realistic cost for a single room treatment in Dubai can range from AED 1,500 to AED 4,000+, depending on the extent of contamination behind the wardrobe and if the wall cavity is affected. This investment ensures the problem is solved at its source, protecting your family's health.
