Should I remove apartment mold myself or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

My bathroom in my Jumeirah apartment has had this musty smell for weeks, and I just discovered black speckled mold all along the bottom edge of the shower tiles and behind the toilet. It’s worse on the wall that faces the outside, so I think the humidity is just getting trapped in there. Should I just grab some bleach and tackle this myself, or is this a job where I need to call in a professional cleaning company?

Hey there, Jumeirah resident. That description – the musty smell and black speckles on the exterior wall – is a classic case of bathroom mold here in Dubai. The high humidity, especially with that sea breeze, gets trapped in the walls and behind tiles, creating a perfect breeding ground.
While bleach might seem like a quick fix, I strongly advise against a DIY approach here. Bleach only bleaches the surface mold you can see; it doesn't kill the roots (hyphae) penetrating porous grout and drywall. It's also highly corrosive and can damage your tiles and grout over time. More critically, improper cleaning can aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination to other areas of your apartment. For a case like yours, where the mold is widespread and on an exterior wall (which could hint at a more serious moisture intrusion issue), a professional inspection is the smart first step. We use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to find the exact source of the moisture behind the walls, which is crucial for a permanent solution. In the UAE, proper remediation follows strict IICRC guidelines to ensure it's done safely and effectively, preventing regrowth and protecting your health. For a proper assessment and a lasting solution, it's best to get it looked at. You can give our team a call at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or send pics to hello@saniservice.com for a consultation.
