Should I take my sick toddler to Mediclinic in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My 3-year-old has had a really bad runny nose and a bit of a fever for the last two days, and it seems to be getting worse today rather than better. I’m in a villa in Jumeirah and I’ve been keeping him inside with the AC on to avoid the heat. Should I try to manage this at home with children’s Panadol and a humidifier, or is this the kind of thing where I should take him to Mediclinic to be checked out?

Based on your description, this warrants a visit to Mediclinic. A fever and worsening respiratory symptoms in a toddler, especially in our UAE climate, should be professionally assessed to rule out secondary infections. While indoor AC provides relief from the heat, it can also dry mucous membranes and potentially circulate irritants if the system is not impeccably maintained, which can exacerbate symptoms.

Common culprits we see in Dubai villas that can prolong or worsen pediatric respiratory issues include microbial growth in AC drip pans or ductwork due to high humidity, or elevated dust and allergen levels from inadequate filtration. However, these typically cause persistent, low-grade allergic-type symptoms rather than an acute febrile illness. An acute infection is the more likely driver here.

My professional recommendation is to have him seen by a pediatrician to get a proper diagnosis. For your home environment, ensure your AC filters are clean (MERV 8 or higher is ideal) and consider having your HVAC system professionally inspected and hygienized if symptoms become recurrent. This is a Dubai Municipality requirement for villas to be done periodically to ensure indoor air quality.

For immediate action, please take him to Mediclinic. For a future indoor air quality assessment to prevent recurring issues, you can reach our team at 800-MOLDS or hello@saniservice.com. Hope he feels better soon.
