Should I treat closet mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom closet on the outside wall has started showing some black specks of mold since the weather got really humid. I tried wiping it down with vinegar, but it came back in just a couple of weeks, and I'm worried it's spreading behind the clothes. Is this something I can handle myself with a specific product from ACE, or should I just call a professional company for an inspection and treatment, and what would that usually cost for a small area like a closet?

Based on your description, this is a classic case of condensation-related mold growth, extremely common in Dubai's humid climate, especially on exterior walls which are prone to thermal bridging. The fact it returned after a surface wipe with vinegar is the critical red flag.
Vinegar only addresses the surface spores you can see. The real problem is the active mycotoxins and hyphae (the root system) that have penetrated the porous drywall or plaster behind. DIY store-bought biocides from ACE are a temporary fix at best and often don't address the moisture source, leading to rapid regrowth. More importantly, improper application can aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination to your clothing and the rest of the room. For a closet on an exterior wall, the primary cause is likely insufficient insulation leading to condensation. A professional inspection (which we provide) uses a thermal imaging camera to identify the exact cold spots and a moisture meter to quantify the saturation level within the wall cavity. This tells us if the issue is superficial or if there's hidden growth. The cost for a professional inspection and treatment of a small area like a closet typically starts from AED 1,000 - AED 2,500. This includes containment, advanced antimicrobial fogging to neutralize airborne spores, and application of a preventative coating. Given the speed of recurrence, I'd strongly recommend a pro assessment to prevent it from compromising your health and belongings.
