Worried about AC mold making kids sick in Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for the past month and I just discovered black spots all around the air vent in their bedroom. We’re in a villa in Mirdif and I’m really worried this mold from the AC unit is making them sick. What’s the fastest way to get a professional to properly clean the chiller and the ducts?

Hi there, this is a very serious situation and you are right to be concerned. What you're describing sounds like a classic case of mold contamination originating from your AC system, likely the chilled water AC unit (we call it a 'chiller') common in Mirdif villas. The black spots are a major red flag.

That black mold around the vent is just the visible sign; the real colony is almost certainly inside the ductwork and, more critically, on the cooling coils and drain pan of the air handling unit (AHU) in your ceiling void. When the unit runs, it blows these spores directly into your children's room, which can absolutely cause persistent coughing, allergies, and other respiratory issues.

Here in Dubai, the high humidity is a huge factor, and if the drain line is clogged or the insulation is bad, condensation creates the perfect breeding ground. Do NOT try to clean this yourself with bleach – it won’t solve the root problem and can aerosolize the spores, making it worse.

The fastest and only way to properly handle this is a professional inspection and remediation. We follow strict UAE guidelines from Dubai Municipality and standards like NADCA for duct cleaning. A certified pro will use borescopes to inspect the ducts, take air and swab samples to identify the mold type, then use industrial HEPA vacuums and antimicrobial coatings to clean the entire system—the ducts, coils, and drain pan.

You need this done ASAP for your kids' health. Please, call our team immediately at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an emergency inspection. We serve Mirdif and can usually be there within 24 hours.
