Could mold from basement affect my son's cough?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rain last month, I noticed a musty smell in the basement, but it’s gotten worse over the past few days. When I looked closely at the walls near the floor, there are some greenish spots that look suspiciously like mold. The AC in the basement also seems to be on all the time now, and my son has been complaining of a persistent cough. Could this be related to the mold?

Hello there,

Mold in your basement could indeed be causing concerns, especially for young children. In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, we've seen cases where mold growth following heavy rains can significantly impact indoor air quality and health.

The musty smell you're noticing is a clear sign of moisture issues that could lead to mold development. The greenish spots on your basement walls are highly suspicious of mold, especially if they're worsening over time. Mold spores can easily spread through the HVAC system, causing widespread contamination throughout your home.

Your son's persistent cough might be related to the mold situation. Inhaled spores or mycotoxins from mold can irritate respiratory systems, leading to symptoms like coughing, wheezing, and even allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Given that you're in the UAE, it's important to note that the high humidity during certain seasons can exacerbate these issues.

I strongly recommend calling 800-MOLDS or emailing hello@saniservice.com for a professional inspection. Our team at Saniservice specializes in mold remediation and can provide a thorough assessment of your basement area. We adhere to UAE regulations, ensuring that any remediation process meets the highest standards.

In the meantime, it would be wise to reduce moisture levels by using dehumidifiers or opening windows during dry spells if possible. However, ensure proper ventilation while doing so to avoid further mold growth.

Remember, addressing this issue promptly can prevent more severe health effects and property damage in the future. Take action now to safeguard your family's well-being!
