Black spots on closet ceiling: DIY clean or call pro?« Back to Previous Page
|
The ceiling in our master bedroom closet has a bunch of black spots that have gotten bigger since the last time we ran the AC continuously a few weeks ago. We live in an older building in Jumeirah, and the closet is on an exterior wall. Is this something I can clean myself with bleach spray from the supermarket, or do I need to call a professional company to check for a leak?

Based on the symptoms you've described—black spots on the ceiling of an exterior wall closet in an older Jumeirah building, exacerbated by AC use—this is highly indicative of an active mold issue caused by a hidden moisture source. The Dubai climate, with its high humidity and constant temperature fluctuations between the hot exterior and cold AC interior, creates significant condensation, which is a primary driver for mold growth on cold surfaces like concrete ceilings.
Using a supermarket bleach spray is strongly discouraged. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces like concrete and drywall, as it only removes the surface discoloration while leaving the root structure intact. It can also exacerbate the problem by introducing additional moisture. More critically, the recurrence and expansion of the spots point to an ongoing water intrusion, likely from a leaking chilled water pipe within the AC system, a roof leak, or capillary moisture rising through the exterior wall. For your safety and the integrity of your property, a professional inspection is absolutely necessary. Our certified mold assessors use thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source of the leak without destructive investigation. This is crucial, as remediation is pointless until the moisture problem is permanently resolved. DIY attempts can disturb the mold, causing spores to become airborne and spread throughout your living space, potentially leading to health issues. We recommend you contact our team for a comprehensive assessment. Please call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection. We will identify the leak, provide a detailed report on the mold species present, and recommend a safe, effective remediation protocol in full compliance with Dubai Municipality guidelines. |
