Should I hire professional mold removal for my Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

Our bedroom closet in our Mirdif villa has had this weird damp smell since the weather turned really humid a few weeks ago. I finally pulled everything out and found a bunch of black speckled mold on the back wall and on some of our leather bags. I tried wiping it with vinegar but the smell is still there and I'm worried it's spreading. For a problem like this in a walk-in closet, should I just call a professional mold removal company, and roughly how much would that cost in Dubai?

In your Mirdif villa, with the persistent damp smell and visible mold on both the wall and belongings, professional remediation is strongly advised. Vinegar only addresses surface mold on non-porous materials and will not eliminate the spores or the underlying moisture problem within the wall, which is why the odor persists. The UAE's high humidity, especially during summer, creates ideal conditions for mold to regrow quickly.

For a walk-in closet, the process involves more than wiping walls. Professionals will contain the area to prevent spores from spreading, use HEPA filtration to clean the air, and safely dispose of severely contaminated porous items like leather bags. Crucially, they will identify and rectify the moisture source, which is often condensation from an AC duct running behind the closet or a minor leak.

Costs are highly variable and depend on the infestation's extent and the required structural repairs. It is not a standardized service. Always request a detailed, on-site inspection and a scope of work before any pricing is discussed. A reputable company will provide this for free and should be able to show certifications from bodies like the IICRC, proving proper training in mold remediation protocols. For verifiable results, insist on before-and-after testing from an independent lab to confirm the spore count has been returned to safe levels.
