Who can inspect black mold in my Jumeirah apartment?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which shares a wall with the kids' bathroom. My youngest has been having a persistent cough that gets worse at night, and I'm starting to worry it's connected. Who can I call for a reliable and thorough mold inspection to check the whole apartment, especially since it’s an older building in Jumeirah?

A certified mold inspector or indoor environmental professional (IEP) can conduct a reliable inspection. In Dubai, look for a company with a certified mold assessment consultant (CMAC) or similar qualification and one that operates its own microbiology lab, as this allows for accurate species identification from collected samples. This is critical for understanding the health risk and planning remediation.

Given the location in an older Jumeirah building and the proximity to a bathroom, the issue is likely persistent humidity from plumbing or condensation, exacerbated by our climate. A proper inspection should include moisture mapping with a thermal camera and hygrometer readings to find the water source, not just a visual check of the visible patch. The inspector should provide a detailed report with lab results that specify the mold type and concentration levels.

This is a serious case due to the child's persistent cough, which can be a symptom of mold exposure. A thorough inspection of the entire apartment, including inside the AC unit and behind walls, is recommended to identify all affected areas. The Dubai Municipality has guidelines on indoor air quality, and a professional inspector will be familiar with these standards. The goal is to get a clear, evidence-based diagnosis of the problem's full extent before any remediation begins.
