Is wardrobe mold in Dubai DIY or professional job?« Back to Previous Page

Our bedroom wardrobe on the outside wall has a bunch of black fuzzy spots that have gotten worse since the humidity kicked in a couple of weeks ago. I tried wiping it down with vinegar but it came right back, and now my clothes have that damp smell. Is this something I can tackle myself with a good cleaner from ACE, or should I just call a professional company for mold removal, and what’s the typical cost for a small job like this in Dubai?

This sounds like a classic case of condensation-induced mold, extremely common in Dubai due to the high humidity interacting with cold external walls from constant AC use. Vinegar often fails because it only addresses surface discoloration, not the moisture source or the root structure.

For a small, contained area, a thorough DIY attempt can be made. Use a dedicated fungicidal cleaner, not bleach, and scrub the affected surfaces. However, success depends entirely on identifying and stopping the moisture source, which is likely condensation on that cooler outer wall. Improving air circulation around the wardrobe is critical.

Given that the mold has returned and is now affecting your clothing, a professional assessment is strongly recommended. The mold may have penetrated porous materials like the wardrobe's backing board or drywall, which DIY methods cannot properly address. In Dubai, remediation involves physical removal of contaminated materials, HEPA vacuuming, and applying antimicrobial coatings to prevent recurrence, followed by verification that the space is within acceptable humidity levels.

For a job of this apparent size, costs are generally structured around assessment and containment rather than just square footage. You should request an on-site inspection from a certified provider to get an accurate scope of work and associated cost.
