How to safely clean mold from my Jumeirah Village Circle AC?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle seems to be blowing out a damp, earthy smell, and for the last couple of weeks, my sinuses have been constantly stuffy and I’m waking up with a headache. I just pulled the filter out and the inside of the unit looks black and fuzzy in patches. What’s the best way to get this professionally cleaned and make sure it’s actually safe to use again?

Your symptoms and the visible mold growth indicate a significant contamination that requires professional remediation. Do not attempt to clean it yourself, as disturbing the mold can release a high concentration of spores into your apartment, potentially worsening your health issues.

For a proper remediation in Dubai’s climate, where high humidity and constant AC use create ideal mold conditions, the process must be comprehensive. A reputable company will first contain the area to prevent cross-contamination. They will then use HEPA-filtered vacuuming and antimicrobial cleaning agents on all internal components—not just the visible patches on the evaporator coils but also the drain pan and ductwork. The key is addressing the moisture source, which is often a clogged condensate drain line, a common issue here.

The most critical step is verification. After cleaning, the unit should be tested to confirm the mold count inside the air handler has been returned to a level found in normal indoor air. This is done through surface or air sampling, with the samples analyzed by an independent microbiology lab. Always request this documented proof of cleanliness; it's the only way to be sure the job was done effectively and your AC is safe to use again.
