Black mold in villa closet: professional needed and cost?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a large patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet in our Jumeirah villa. It's been really humid lately and we suspect it's from a slow leak in the AC unit. I'm worried about the health risks for my family but also don't want to get ripped off. For a problem like this, should I just hire a professional mold remediation company, and what's a realistic price range I should expect in Dubai for inspecting and treating it?

That black patch in a closet is a serious concern, especially in a Jumeirah villa with high humidity. You are right to suspect the AC unit; slow condensation leaks from drain lines or insulated ducts are a very common source in Dubai.

Given the size you describe, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. Do not attempt to clean it yourself, as disturbing large colonies can aerosolize spores throughout your home. A proper assessment will identify the mold type, locate the exact moisture source (which is absolutely critical), and define the extent of the contamination, often using moisture meters and thermal cameras.

For remediation, pricing is not fixed and depends entirely on the scope. Factors include the square footage affected, whether wall cavities or the AC system itself are contaminated, and the required containment measures to prevent cross-contamination. For a villa closet scenario, you are likely looking at a project that requires specialized equipment and proper disposal protocols. The only way to get an accurate cost is to request an on-site assessment from a company that provides a detailed, scope-of-work proposal.

Look for providers who can explain their process clearly, offer before-and-after testing to verify the space is safe, and are transparent about their certifications. The goal is to solve the moisture problem and return the indoor air quality to a safe standard, not just remove the visible stain.
