How to quickly treat recurring mold behind bedroom wardrobe?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots appearing along the corner of our master bedroom wall, behind the wardrobe. It's an interior wall in our Marina apartment, and it’s been extra humid lately even with the AC running constantly. What's the fastest way to get this properly treated so it doesn't come back?

The black spots behind your wardrobe are a classic sign of condensation-related mold, very common in Dubai's high humidity. The wall is likely a cold spot from the adjacent AC-cooled room, causing moisture to condense and mold to grow on the dust and organic material present.

For immediate action, move the wardrobe away to expose the wall fully. Wipe the surface with a microfiber cloth and a solution of white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover, but never mix chemicals. This is a temporary fix if the moisture source isn't addressed.

The recurring issue points to excess humidity. Even with AC running constantly, the unit may be oversized, cycling on/off too quickly without adequately dehumidifying, or the wardrobe is trapping stagnant, humid air against the cold wall. Using a hygrometer to measure your bedroom's humidity is crucial; it should ideally be between 45-55%.

For a permanent solution, the wall cavity must be inspected for a possible hidden leak from plumbing or the AC condensate drain line, which is a frequent culprit. A professional inspection with a borescope can verify this. Once any leak is fixed, the affected area should be properly treated with antimicrobial solutions to prevent regrowth. Improving air circulation behind the furniture is also key.

In many cases, simply cleaning the surface and repositioning the furniture away from the wall is not enough. For a confirmed, recurring problem, a professional assessment is the fastest way to identify the root cause and ensure the remediation protocol is correct, preventing it from returning.
