Urgent to remove mold in bedroom for kids' cough?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for the last couple of weeks and I just found some black spots growing in the corner of our master bedroom closet in Jumeirah Park. I think it’s mold, probably from the humidity. How quickly do I need to get this professionally cleaned before it becomes a major health risk for my family?

The presence of mold and a persistent cough in children should be addressed promptly. The black spots in your closet are a visible sign of excess moisture, a common issue in Dubai due to high humidity and condensation from continuous AC use. This can release spores that irritate the respiratory system, especially in children.

While the risk level depends on the mold species, you should act within days, not weeks. For a small, contained area, you can clean it yourself with a solution of detergent and water, but never use bleach as it can worsen spore release. However, with children experiencing symptoms, a professional inspection is strongly recommended to assess the extent and identify the moisture source, which is often hidden within walls or AC systems.

In Dubai's climate, simply cleaning the visible mold is a temporary fix if the underlying humidity issue isn't resolved. A certified inspector can use moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the source and recommend remediation. They can also take samples for lab analysis to identify the species, which determines the necessary safety precautions during removal. For health concerns, always consult a medical professional to discuss the children's symptoms.
