Best way to stop black mold in my bedroom closet?« Back to Previous Page

My master bedroom closet on the inside wall has started getting a few small patches of black mold, especially after the really humid nights we've been having lately. I keep the AC running but the closet is always a bit stuffy. I'm worried it's going to spread to our clothes. What's the best way to stop this for good—should I get a dehumidifier box for in there, or is there something else I should be checking with the building's AC system?

The mold in your closet is likely due to a localized humidity pocket, a common issue in Dubai's climate where high outdoor humidity meets aggressively cooled interior walls. The temperature difference creates condensation inside enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces like closets on exterior walls.

Start by wiping the existing mold with a microfiber cloth dampened with a dilute white vinegar solution. For a closet that size, a dehumidifier box is a good immediate step to absorb excess moisture and protect your clothes. However, this only manages the symptom.

The root cause is insufficient air circulation from your AC. Ensure the closet door is left open as often as possible to allow cool, dry air to enter. Check that the bedroom's AC vent isn't blocked and is directing airflow into the room effectively. If the problem persists, the issue may be with the AC system's overall balance or a lack of insulation within the wall itself, allowing a cold spot to form.

For recurring mold despite these measures, a professional inspection is recommended. They can use thermal imaging to identify hidden condensation points and assess if the AC system requires rebalancing to properly manage humidity levels throughout the entire room, which is the definitive solution.
