Is black mold causing my kids' cough in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it might be related to mold. We live in a villa in Jumeirah and I just found some black spots on the back of our bedroom wardrobe, which is on an exterior wall. It's been so humid lately that our windows are constantly fogged up in the morning. What’s the best way to get a proper mold inspection done to find the source and make sure it's not hidden somewhere else in the house?

Based on your description of the situation—children coughing, visible black spots on an exterior wall wardrobe, and persistent condensation on windows—a professional mold inspection is strongly recommended. The combination of symptoms and visible growth is a significant indicator of a potential indoor air quality issue.

In Dubai's climate, the high humidity, especially during summer months, creates a perfect environment for mold growth. Exterior walls are common culprits due to thermal bridging, where the difference between the scorching outdoor temperature and the chilled indoor air from constant AC use leads to condensation within the wall cavity. The black spots you see are likely just the visible portion; the hidden growth within the wall could be more extensive.

A proper inspection by a certified professional, like our team at Saniservice, involves more than a visual assessment. We use tools such as moisture meters to detect dampness inside walls, thermal imaging cameras to identify temperature differentials indicating hidden moisture, and air and surface sampling to identify the specific mold species and spore concentration levels in your home's air. This comprehensive approach is crucial to locate all sources and assess the potential impact on your family's health.

Given the health symptoms and the likelihood of hidden growth, a DIY approach is insufficient and could disturb the mold, exacerbating the problem.
